Early on Tuesday morning, a Foot Locker store in the West Englewood neighborhood became the latest target of a "smash-and-grab" burglary, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. in the 6900 block of S. Ashland, with burglars using a vehicle to break into the retail establishment.
According to Chicago police, after smashing through the storefront, the suspects proceeded to burglarize the business, evacuating with merchandise and then fled, not just in the crashed vehicle but with two other vehicles in tow, despite no injuries being reported. As of the latest updates, no suspects have been taken into custody.
Additional details provided by WGN-TV indicate that this smash-and-grab robbery is part of a troubling trend on the South Side, where retail outlets have been targeted by organized groups. The burglars swiftly carried out the heist and managed to elude authorities, leaving investigators searching for leads on the unknown direction they fled towards.
While no injuries were associated with the incident, the financial impact on the store has not been disclosed. The Chicago Police Department is actively investigating the crime, calling for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to aid in the apprehension of the individuals involved.
