Despite being arrested on July 14 on charges of misdemeanor battery and domestic violence, Judkins' situation improved after the prosecutor's office scrutinized the evidence — or lack thereof. There were contrasting pieces of evidence, with photos showing injuries yet other videos from the same period failing to corroborate the victim's condition. As quoted from the State Attorney's memorandum, "the victim’s injuries depicted in the photos could be explained by either account of the incident." This revelation, obtained by NBC Miami, suggests that the prosecutors faced a convoluted task in deciphering what actually transpired.
The discarding of the charges follows an incident where after having been frustrated by reading text messages, Judkins allegedly punched the victim. Reported by CBS Sports, the altercation escalated while driving in a rental car near Fort Lauderdale International Airport, with Judkins purportedly striking the victim in multiple areas, resulting in visible bruising.
Nonetheless, the path is now clearer for Judkins to focus on football. The 21-year-old running back, who was the 36th pick in the NFL draft following a solid season at Ohio State, has this legal cloud lifted as the Browns eye him to take up the mantle in the wake of Nick Chubb signing with the Houston Texans.
