San Francisco will soon be getting a double scoop of Angela's Organic Ice Cream.

Petaluma-based Angela's Ice Cream opened its first San Francisco scoop shop last week in Noe Valley at 3751 24th Street (at Chattanooga) in the former Mill Mercantile space.

A second location is being planned for the Castro's long-vacant former 7-Eleven space at 3998 18th Street (at Noe).

Hoodline readers may recall that a specialty butcher shop, Muuu Meats, abandoned its fully permitted store in the long-troubled 7-Eleven without explanation last year.

Angela's Ice Cream is owned by Ignacio "Iggy" Garat and his mother, Angela Pryor Garat. Angela's Ice Cream currently has locations in Noe Valley, Mill Valley, Healdsburg, and two Petaluma shops.

Garat and his mother purchased LaLa's Ice Cream in 2017 and changed the name to Angela's Ice Cream. Garat also owns Iggy's Organic Burgers in Healdsburg. Garat did not respond to Hoodline's request for comment.

Pryor Garat and her husband, Igancio Garat, also own the recently opened Castro Argentinian restaurant Flora King.

Angela's Ice Cream makes its organic ice cream in-house with recipes developed by Pryor Garat. The Noe Valley location currently offers 21 signature flavors, 5 seasonal flavors, and 6 vegan flavors.

Additionally, Angela's Ice Cream will offer baked desserts and other treats, including sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, brownies, and cookies.

The Castro has been without an ice cream shop since Castro Fountain and Double Rainbow closed within a week of each other earlier this year.

Public records indicate that a construction permit has been issued for the remodel of the former 7-Eleven space. Remodel work includes fresh paint, new sinks, cabinets, and flooring, installing a handwashing sink, demolishing an existing walk-in freezer, and reopening three windows that face Noe Street.

On a recent visit by a Hoodline reporter, construction work was already underway.

An opening date for the Castro location has not been announced.
