A multi-vehicle collision on I69 has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, according to Fort Wayne police. The incident, which involved a tanker truck, a silver Ford Expedition, and a red Ford F150, occurred near mile marker 304.8 on the southbound lane, according to the City of Fort Wayne.

The Fort Wayne Police Department reported that they were called to the scene of the accident where they discovered that seven people were inside the Expedition, with one adult female pronounced dead by the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority. The remaining six passengers were transported to a local hospital. The drivers of the tanker and the F150 escaped without injury. The pile-up was apparently caused when the tanker rear-ended the Expedition, which then hit the F150, as traffic had piled up due to, a wide load further down I69 and ongoing construction adding to the congestion.

The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) and the FWPD Aerial Support Unit are conducting a thorough investigation at the scene. Assisting in the process, the Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Unit is examining the tanker truck to determine if any regulatory violations took place. The Allen County Coroner’s office will release the name of the deceased after notifying the next of kin.
