HarperCollins Publishers is setting up roots in Brownsburg, Indiana, taking their business expansion to the next level with a cutting-edge supply chain logistics facility. Announced as a forward-looking move, the 1.6 million-square-foot hub, expected to become operational in 2028, aims to ramp up the efficiency of HarperCollins’s operations by incorporating sophisticated automation technology—a development rooted in lessons learned from their Robroyston warehouse in Glasgow.

Outsourcing distribution and logistics back in 2010, the strategic streamlining from five warehouses down to one proved a boon for HarperCollins, with revenue gains reflecting a substantial near-doubling over the past 15 years. Furnished with the latest technology, the new Indiana facility will accommodate the shipment of over 300 million books each year. "HarperCollins has experienced significant transformation and growth over the last 15 years, and now is the time to expand our North American footprint," Brian Murray, President and CEO, HarperCollins Publishers told the Town of Brownsburg.

This venture is more than an operational upgrade—it represents a sizable employment opportunity for the region: creation of over 400 supply chain logistics positions. Going beyond the numbers, during the hub’s construction phase, an additional 375 jobs will become available. This employment bloom will undoubtedly impact the local economy and employment landscape positively.

Pending the final nod on economic development incentives from the state, local jurisdiction, and AES Indiana, the project is poised to launch. To bind this investment to Brownsburg is a move that Town Council President Travis Tschaenn welcomes, hoping to mark the town on the map of business-friendly locales. "HarperCollins’s investment in our community will bring new, exciting employment opportunities and helps establish Brownsburg as an ideal location for business growth at the international level," Travis Tschaenn shared with the Town of Brownsburg.

Boosting local potential further, AES Indiana steps in with support, powering not just utilities but growth and community vitality. "At AES Indiana, we are committed to powering the growth and vitality of the communities we serve. That’s why we’re proud to support HarperCollins’s transformational investment in Brownsburg," Brandi Davis-Handy, President of AES Indiana, expressed in a statement obtained by Town of Brownsburg.
