Indiana State Rep. Tim O'Brien has been recognized for his efforts in serving the state's youth, receiving the Boys & Girls Club of Indiana Legislative Champion Award. The award comes in light of O'Brien's role as Chair of the House Ways & Means K-12 Subcommittee and his commitment to increasing funding for K-12 education, as reported by Indiana House Republicans. O'Brien's work helped secure a significant increase in the Hoosier schools’ budget, which now sees a 5% boost with a $640 million allocation, the highest in history for the state.
Executive Director Andrew Backes from the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville praised the lawmaker, crediting O'Brien's advocacy for children, education, and after-school programming as being pivotal, which has led to nearly half of the state's budget to now back K-12 education, O’Brien has been instrumental in pushing through legislative measures aimed at improving the educational landscape in Indiana, "I am always proud to support the next generation of Hoosiers and help ensure they can achieve success," O'Brien said to Indiana House Republicans, while accepting the accolade.
