Lawrence Fire Department’s Station 39 has temporarily relocated to Station 38 due to a mold issue affecting its building, which posed both structural and health concerns.
In an effort to provide transparency, the City of Lawrence released details showing a 0.9-mile distance between the two firehouses, a span that is not expected to significantly affect response times. The department remains "fully staffed and ready to respond to emergencies across the City of Lawrence."
Station 39 is currently vacant while the building undergoes mold remediation, with affected areas being thoroughly cleaned. The process is intended to reduce exposure to mold for firefighters who work in the station.
"Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we prioritize a safe working environment for our firefighters," the City of Lawrence stated, noting the ongoing efforts to maintain safety standards and operations within its fire department.
