Recent trends have seen an uptick in accidents involving scooters and bikes in South Florida. Just last week, a grave collision on Interstate 95 resulted in the death of a man riding an electric bike after a Ford sedan impacted it, ejecting both riders of the bike, tragically one did not survive. Florida Highway Patrol trooper Joe Sanchez advised against such vehicles on highways, stating, "The electric bike had no business traveling on the highway, and we ask people who are on scooters [and] electric bikes to please stay off the highway and stay either on the sidewalls or the shoulders," in a statement obtained by CBS News Miami.
This spike in incidents also includes the fatality of 54-year-old Fabian Moses, who was struck by a 14-year-old on a dirt bike while biking on the Rickenbacker Causeway; the youth stayed at the scene but was later arrested, as reported by CBS News Miami.
