A fatal collision on Interstate 65 in Johnson County claimed the life of a motorcyclist this past Saturday morning. According to News 8, the incident involved a motorcycle and a car and occurred in the northbound lanes around 11 a.m. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, with no other injuries reported. Following the crash, northbound lanes experienced significant congestion, though they have since been cleared.
Later in the evening, the identity of the deceased was released; the coroner disclosed the individual as 20-year-old Jacob Ruiz of Franklin. The Indiana State Police have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of the collision but asserted, that the investigation is actively underway, as per WTHR.
As FOX59 reported, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) acknowledged that the aftermath of the crash would require lanes to be closed for an indeterminate period. This statement was made as investigations by the Indiana State Police had commenced following the accident.
