Tragedy struck on Chicago's South Side as two women suffered gunshot wounds in an overnight apartment shooting. According to WGN-TV, the victims were discovered just before midnight inside a South Shore building, located in the 7700 block of South Essex. Police, who were responding to a report of a person shot, arrived to find an open door and entered the premises to find the two women, ages 23 and 25.
Both victims had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The 25-year-old woman, described as having been shot in the abdomen and leg, was pronounced dead after being transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, as ABC7 Chicago reports. The second woman, aged 23, having received wounds to her legs, is expected to recover.
Details surrounding the motives or circumstances of the shooting remain scarce, as investigators continue to work the scene. A person of interest has been identified and is currently being spoken to by police, but as of now, no arrests have been made. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the woman killed, as per WGN-TV.
