
On Thursay, tragedy struck on U.S. Highway 167 near Flamingo Road in St. Landry Parish when 42-year-old Chrystal Thevis of Opelousas was fatally struck by two vehicles while walking along the roadway. The Louisiana State Police Troop I began their investigation into the crash, which involved an identified 2011 Toyota 4Runner and an as yet unidentified second vehicle that fled the scene, as reported by the Louisiana State Police news release.
The initial findings indicate Thevis, clad in dark-colored clothing, was in the roadway when the southbound 4Runner collided with her, after this collision, Thevis was hit a second time by another vehicle that currently remains at large, the driver of the 4Runner, who was wearing a seat belt, did not suffer injuries from the incident. In a display of compliance with investigative procedures, the driver of the 4Runner underwent breath analysis voluntarily, confirming no presence of alcohol, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The investigation into the deadly hit-and-run is still ongoing. Louisiana State Police are trying to find the second vehicle involved and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
