A suspect was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop in Decatur County. Indiana State Police, who are investigating the incident, revealed that the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and Greensburg Police Department conducted the stop on County Road 300 East at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, as per FOX59's report.
The stop, initiated after an incident the previous night in a neighboring county, escalated when, according to WTHR, a male suspect exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and allegedly pointed it toward the officers who then discharged their weapons resulting in his being struck and falling to the ground, the car was occupied by two other individuals, a man and a woman.
The officers present began immediate emergency measures, but the individual, identified as Manlief, was pronounced dead at the scene; this was noted in a piece from WRTV. It was confirmed that no officers or bystanders were harmed during the altercation, and that the officers involved had activated their body-worn and in-car cameras during the incident.
The investigation into the shooting is currently ongoing, as the footage from the cameras is likely to play a critical role in piecing together the sequence of events, as reported by WRTV.
