In a coordinated law enforcement effort, 23-year-old Leon'ta Anderson was arrested in connection to the tragic death of 2-year-old Harmoney Anderson. The young girl had sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at Methodist Hospital on July 11, as detailed in a social media post from IMPD News.
Two individuals were initially detained by officers at the hospital, where after an investigation involving several search warrants, a crime scene with multiple firearms was discovered on Ralston Avenue, IMPD detectives, alongside the U.S. Marshals Service and the Chicago Police Department worked together to locate Anderson after he had apparently fled to Chicago, with detectives employing various investigative methods to determine his whereabouts and the U.S. Marshals ultimately took him into custody yesterday.
An arrest warrant was issued for Anderson last Wednesday, charging him with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, following additional investigation details and consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), as stated in IMPD News.
It is important to note that the arrest and the charges levied against Anderson are merely accusations, and he is considered innocent until proven guilty as per the legal standard, "innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law," this affirmation comes straight from the IMPD News announcement. Anderson is currently awaiting extradition back to Indianapolis where he will face his active warrant charges.
