The Tremonton-Garland community is preparing to solemnly honor the lives of two officers killed in the line of duty, with public services announced for the following week. Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada, both of the Tremonton Garland Police, were fatally shot late Sunday night as they responded to a distressing domestic violence call. As reported by ABC4, a public viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Bear River High School, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Further details provided by a press release noted that each officer's funeral is to take place separately at the Utah State University Spectrum in Logan. Officer Estrada's funeral is set for Thursday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m., while Sgt. Sorensen's service is to swiftly follow on Friday, Aug. 29, at the same time. According to KSLTV, attendees are asked to be seated by 10 a.m. for both funerals.

The tragic incident unfolded when multiple 911 hang-up calls were traced to an address in Tremonton. "One of the officers responded to the address, and as he approached the home, the suspect opened the door and fired, killing the officer," shared Chief Chad Reyes of the Brigham City Police Department in an interview with KUTV. Sgt. Sorensen was believed to be the first officer to arrive on the scene.

The suspect, Ryan Bate, has been charged in connection with the shooting that also injured a Box Elder County deputy and his K-9. ABC4 reports that Bate is expected to make his initial court appearance on Friday.
