Utah's sophomore sensation, Wayshawn Parker, has secured a spot on the prestigious Doak Walker Award Watchlist, as announced by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum, keeping eyes peeled on a promising season for the young running back who has already shown he can handle the collegiate gridiron with aplomb.
After an impressive freshman year with Washington State where Parker featured in every game, boasting seven starts and earning the title of Pac-12's Freshman "Top Performer," this Richmond, California-native is on the fast track to college football fame; he pounded the turf for 735 yards over 137 carries scoring four touchdowns and he didn’t stop there, he caught 11 passes clocking in another 108 yards and one touchdown reflecting the versatility that puts defenders on edge.
His standout performance included a breakthrough 100-yard game that was accentuated by a breathtaking 75-yard rush to the end zone against Utah State, according to UtahUtes.com.
As the season progresses, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum will narrow down the field to ten semifinalists come November, and towards the culmination of the collegiate football ballet, three finalists for the Doak Walker Award will be unveiled, with the recipient being announced on live television during The Home Depot College Football Awards scheduled for December 12, a moment where college gridiron gladiators hold their breath in hopes of etching their names alongside the game's most promising talents.
