A van fire at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport temporarily disrupted traffic at the South Terminal on Wednesday evening. Smoke was observed emanating from the glove compartment of a parked van around 7:33 p.m., before a blaze rapidly took over the vehicle.

The incident occurred at the curb of the upper level, leading to all vehicle traffic being diverted to the South Lower Level as a safety measure. Despite the potential for mayhem, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department managed to quickly extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading, and no injuries were reported. As per a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, "Roadway traffic in the area is experiencing moderate congestion, but airport operations remain otherwise normal."

Video footage captured the front of the van engulfed in flames, with thick smoke clouding the air, as emergency crews tackled the fire. Airport customer service employees worked to reroute passengers from the affected area, ensuring their safety and guiding them through the temporary changes, this arrangement, was highlighted in a report by Atlanta News First.

The airport spokesperson confirmed that the regular flow of operations was reestablished before 10 p.m. that evening, meanwhile, investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. The South Terminal, primarily servicing Delta Air Lines, the airport's largest hub, was subject to this fiery mishap but has since returned to normal operation.
