A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized following a collision where he was struck by a car while riding an e-bike in Centerville, as reported by multiple sources. The incident occurred near the intersection of 900 South and 400 East around 8 p.m. this past Friday, according to the Centerville Police Department.
The youth was with friends in a crosswalk when the crash unfolded. A KUTV report detailed that one vehicle had already stopped to allow the group to pass. However, a second vehicle, driving southbound as well, overtook the first and subsequently hit the boy on his e-bike. Both drivers stayed at the scene.
Despite wearing a helmet, the boy suffered cuts, bruises, and was reportedly bleeding from the head. As KSLTV stated, the child was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake. The boy's injuries were said to not be life-threatening.
Authorities issued a citation to the driver of the second car for bypassing a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk. "The cyclist went over the hood," police recounted, adding that "there was no suspicion that impairment was a factor," according to FOX13. The details suggest a routine passage through a crosswalk turned perilous, underscoring the vulnerability of cyclists and the swift change of normality to an emergency.
