The City of Bloomington has unveiled a new digital tool that promises to simplify the way residents and visitors interact with the city's layers of data. Dubbed the Bloomington Community Map, this online application serves as a versatile resource for locating a variety of community-oriented information, ranging from parks and public trails to vital neighborhood boundaries and demographics.

Developed by the City's Information & Technology Services (ITS) Department, the website is designed with user-friendliness in mind, allowing for seamless navigation and an effortless approach to uncovering Bloomington's multi-faceted data. As reported by the  City of Bloomington's official announcement, the Community Map introduces a CivicSearch address lookup. By inputting an address, users will instantly see the amenities, zones, and boundaries associated with it, making it a breeze for anyone to gain insights into their local terrain or prospective neighborhoods.

Meghan Blair, GIS Manager, underscored the map's dedication to transparency and user engagement. She stated, "The Community Map seeks to make information as easily accessible as possible." Her words highlight the map's role, not only as a practical tool for residents' decision-making but also as a gateway for engaging with the wider community infrastructure.

Complementing the interactive map is a dashboard feature that offers a snapshot of the city's broader statistics - a boon for those seeking a quick glance at the city’s demographics or infrastructure, such as housing characteristics, trail mileages, and sidewalk stretches. At the heart of this operation is the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program, which lays the foundational support for city planning and operational services with its robust data and mapping capacities.
