A Boynton Beach incident last Friday left a school bus and a Lexus damaged after a collision at an intersection, reportedly caused by a local woman driving under the influence with a minor in her car. Authorities told CBS12 that Megan Lee Champion, 38, appeared lethargic and showed signs of impairment following the crash involving her vehicle and a Palm Beach County school bus.

The collision occurred around 5:04 p.m. last week at the corner of Citrus Park Boulevard and Lawrence Road. Described by the Law&Crime coverage, Champion's car allegedly swerved between lanes before colliding sharply with the bus, consigned only to its driver who was left unharmed. Witnesses at the scene observed the woman's car, with her 11-year-old daughter on board, driving slowly and erratically prior to the accident.

Upon encountering Champion, officers from the Boynton Beach Police Department noted her slurred speech and an inability to conduct a field sobriety test adequately. The police report, as obtained by CBS12, mentioned her aggressive behavior during her arrest including attempts to bite an officer.

Court records confirmed that Champion is facing charges for DUI causing property damage, DUI with a minor passenger, and refusing to sign her citation. Following the incident, which saw both airbags in her vehicle deployed, Champion and her daughter remained in the Lexus, Law&Crime reported. Speech that was slurred and denial of alcohol consumption cast further doubt on Champion's condition at the scene.

Champion's arrest led to a denial of breath and urine tests at the DUI testing facility and subsequently being booked into Palm Beach County Jail. According to CBS12's report, she was released on bond the following day. Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 22.
