In Brownsburg, Indiana, local veterans and their families have an opportunity to broaden their understanding of federal and state level benefits designed to assist them post-service. The American Legion Colonel Billie J Holmes Memorial Post 331 has partnered with the Hendricks County Veteran’s Service Office to host a free “Veteran’s Benefit Overview Workshop” on Saturday, October 25th, 2025 at 1 p.m.
The workshop, located at Post 331 on 636 East Main Street, is set up to directly engage and to educate veterans on the resources available to them, many of which remain underutilized due to a lack of awareness or the complexities involved in accessing these benefits. According to the Brownsburg official announcement, the aim is to ensure “US military veterans know what benefits are available to them at the federal and state levels.”
The invitation is not just extended to veterans themselves but also to their spouses, surviving spouses, & children, acknowledging that the ripple effects of service touch more than just those who wore the uniform. This inclusive approach speaks to the broader understanding of military service as a commitment that stretches beyond the individual.
Certainty over eligibility and understanding of procedures are common concerns among older veterans. This workshop promises to specifically address such concerns. “Some veterans, as they age, may become eligible for benefits they may not realize or do not know the proper procedures to obtain their benefits,” the announcement on the Brownsburg website explains. Importantly, the event is not closed to American Legion members alone but is open to the public, encouraging a wider participation.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and a willingness to learn. As an added amenity, light refreshments will be provided to those who attend, creating a welcoming atmosphere conducive to information sharing and community support.
