
Early this morning, a 911 call reporting a stabbing incident in the 500 block of E. 111th Street in Carmel led to police officers and first responders rushing to the scene. According to a social media post by the Carmel Police Department, the call came in at approximately 4:33 a.m. Officers, arriving at the location, were met with the sound of someone calling for help from inside a garage.
An encounter with an aggressive dog initially hampered their efforts to assist the individual. While dealing with the urgent situation, officers were forced to shoot the dog in order to safely continue their attempt to render aid to the person in distress. "The Carmel Fire Department transported the animal to an emergency veterinary clinic," the Carmel Police Department stated, though the dog later had to be euthanized due to the injuries it sustained.
Upon reaching the victim, the officers found that the individual had suffered a puncture wound to her arm. However, the person declined to be taken to the hospital for further treatment. While the details of the incident remain under investigation.
The Carmel Police Department expressed regret over the turn of events involving the dog. "Officers never want to harm an animal, and these moments remain in their minds long after the call ends," the Carmel Police Department post reads. Echoing a commitment to public safety and service, the police expressed their perspective that their "first responsibility in this situation was to reach the person who appeared to be in danger and ensure medical care could be provided."
