Early Thursday morning, a pedestrian was left critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Nashville, a situation that Metro Nashville Police Department is now actively probing. The incident occurred at the intersection of Fourth Avenue South and Korean Veterans Boulevard around 3:20 a.m., as reported by WKRN. Authorities are in search of a blue SUV, suspected to have front-end damage, after it hit the man who was reportedly crossing the street outside of the crosswalk with a friend.

The victim was promptly taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, while the SUV fled the scene. Following the crash, Fourth Avenue was closed to traffic from Korean Veterans Boulevard to Peabody Street. WSMV notes witnesses recalled seeing the vehicle traveling south on 4th Avenue, hitting the man near the intersection before driving away. Contrary to initial reports, officers at the scene stated the man was walking through the crosswalk when he was struck.

Detectives are sorting through surveillance footage in an effort to locate the fleeing vehicle. Described as a dark-colored SUV, it should exhibit noticable damage on its front end. The intersection where the man was hit remained closed as investigators worked on the scene, according to FOX 17.

The Metro Nashville Police have shared a photo of the vehicle believed to be involved in a recent hit-and-run. So far, they haven’t released any information about the driver or the condition of the injured pedestrian. Police are still searching for the suspect and the blue SUV, and are asking the public for any tips that could help solve the case.
