St. Lucie County's Interstate 95 was the site of tragic events that led to significant northbound traffic delays starting yesterday afternoon. The Florida Highway Patrol reported a rollover crash involving a Toyota Sequoia near Indrio Road that ended with two fatalities and six serious injuries, as released in a report and detailed by WPBF. According to the WPBF, the vehicle veered off the road, re-entered, and began to overturn, causing the ejection of multiple passengers. There were eight occupants in the SUV, including seven adults and an infant, with the driver and a female passenger pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining six were transported to HCA Lawnwood Hospital for treatment.

Adding to yesterday's turmoil, a separate incident involving a stolen silver SUV occurred in close proximity to the rollover crash. The vehicle evaded a traffic control point, went down an embankment and crashed into a canal, prompting a police chase and subsequent K-9 unit deployment by the Fort Pierce Police Department. TCPalm reports that the driver of the stolen vehicle was apprehended and the SUV was confirmed stolen from Palm Beach County. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, mentioned in a social media post, stated that "The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation regarding the stolen vehicle and any related offenses."

These simultaneous incidents significantly impacted traffic, as northbound lanes on I-95 were expected to be closed for hours following the accidents. Motorists were advised to anticipate additional travel time and to seek alternative routes if possible, per advice from local authorities. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office further mentioned that, "Traffic delays are expected northbound on I-95 because of the presence of additional law enforcement," as noted by TCPalm.

Investigations by the Florida Highway Patrol into the rollover crash are ongoing.
