
A tragic incident on the Interstate 15 near Rose Park claimed a life on last night, as reported by multiple sources. The freeway's southbound lanes have been shut down following a collision involving a car striking debris on the road. FOX 13 reported that the male driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, succumbed to fatal injuries at approximately 7:58 p.m. near mile marker 311.
In the aftermath of the crash, authorities have cordoned off all southbound lanes to conduct an investigation, which is expected to impose significant traffic delays in the region. A statement obtained by KSL from a spokesperson identified as Alexander indicated that the I-15 would remain closed for at least another hour from the time of the incident. Additional closures include on-ramps for Beck Street and U.S. 89, with traffic rerouting directed to I-215.
Commuters have been advised to anticipate heavier traffic and potential delays, particularly between the closure point and West Bountiful. On social media, officials from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) cautioned road users to plan accordingly regarding the ongoing investigation and road closure. The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) has not yet released detailed information regarding the cause of the accident or the nature of the debris involved in the crash. Nevertheless, officials expect the investigation on the ground to extend until at least 10:15 p.m., "I-15 will remain closed until the investigation is complete," officials said via KUTV.
