The City of Fishers has decided to halt its plan to build a new roundabout at 116th Street and Allisonville Road. According to IndyStar, the decision followed recent traffic studies and concerns after an increase in accidents at a nearby roundabout. Local officials cited ongoing traffic issues related to the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Clear Path Northeast project at I-465 and I-69.
Fishers Community and PR Director Ashley Elrod told FOX59 that heavy traffic from the construction project and a recent study led the city to postpone the roundabout project for a year until traffic patterns stabilize.
Some residents shared their views with WRTV. One driver said the area is congested and roundabouts are only effective when drivers know how to use them. Another driver from Noblesville said there are already enough roundabouts and expressed concern about the potential for accidents.
