An officer-involved shooting in Fort Wayne left one person dead. The incident happened last night when an Allen County Sheriff’s deputy encountered a parked car near Schwartz Road and Irving Road and saw the individual inside with a gun, according to WTHR. The situation escalated, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
WISH-TV reports the deputy called for backup after discovering the weapon. Officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department and Indiana State Police responded. An aggressive movement by the suspect prompted officers from all three agencies to fire their weapons, resulting in the suspect’s death.
Medical personnel confirmed the fatality on site. One officer was injured, but details about the officer’s condition have not been released. Indiana State Police are leading the investigation into the incident.
WFFT noted that officers from different departments participated in the response. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department has not yet issued an official statement.
