Hamilton County has completed its budget hearings for 2026, working with a $324 million budget. The discussions considered the impact of Senate Bill 1, which is expected to reduce property tax revenue and limit levy growth in future years, though it will not significantly affect the 2026 budget. Financial consultant Mike Reuter noted the importance of planning for these changes, according to the Hamilton County’s announcement.
Newly elected officials, including Auditor Todd Clevenger and Surveyor Gary Duncan, joined council members in reviewing the budget. Council President Sue Maki acknowledged the efforts of all involved in making adjustments to align with projected revenue.
The council will meet on October 13 to finalize the budget, which will then require approval from the State of Indiana before taking effect in 2026.
