A Homestead Police officer named Henry Quintero found himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested on multiple charges, including DUI and hit-and-run. Authorities confirmed the incident involved a multi-vehicle collision at East Palm Drive and U.S. 1 that happened yesterday afternoon. Witnesses at the scene observed Quintero, allegedly under the influence, fleeing the crash site without offering aid to the injured victims, according to WSVN.
After refusing to take sobriety tests, Quintero's condition was described as having bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelling of alcohol, said officers who confronted him near an apartment complex entrance. Local 10 News reported that Quintero, who refused treatment and declined a blood test after being transported to Jackson West Medical Center, has since posted his $2,800 bond. Capturing the post-crash moments, traffic cameras have provided evidence of Quintero's dangerous maneuver through a red light and into oncoming traffic.
The crash that Quintero is accused of causing resulted in a Ford Bronco overturning and subsequently colliding with a Ford Mustang. Fire rescue teams treated one passenger from the Bronco for multiple lacerations, and another driver was reported to have sustained injuries. Details from the arrest report highlight Quintero's apparent impairment at the time of accident, with officials noting signs such as a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech.
Further investigation elements, including body-worn video footage from the arresting officers, have become a part of the case against Quintero. Citations were issued by Florida City police, as confirmed by the arrest report obtained by Local 10 News. As of now, the Homestead Police Department has not publicly commented on the arrest of one of their officers; outreach from media outlets continues for an official response.
