On a routine vehicle recovery operation in Belle Glade, a somber discovery was made when Sister's Towing retrieved a 2015 Jeep from the Miami Canal yesterday, containing human remains. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office indicated that the details surrounding the vehicle's plunge into the canal remain as murky as the waters from which it was pulled, CBS12 reported.
At around 1:26 p.m., on the 950 block of Miami Canal Road, Sister's Towing pulled the vehicle from the water, according to the Boca Raton Tribune. Officers and rescue workers were met with the grim discovery that the recovered Jeep Compass contained human remains.
As the investigation unfolds, the identity of the individual found lifeless inside the vehicle is yet to be determined, and notification of the next of kin awaits. There has been no immediate implication of foul play from authorities, but the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is not taking the situation lightly as they continue to work to piece together the last moments before the vehicle's aquatic descent.
Investigators are still looking into how the Jeep ended up in the Miami Canal, but authorities said foul play is not suspected and the case appears to be a tragic accident. The Medical Examiner's Office now has custody of the vehicle and the remains as they work to determine the exact cause of death.
