The Indiana House Republicans are on the hunt for interns. State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton) announced that paid internships for the 2026 legislative session are now open to individuals who are either currently enrolled as college students, recent college graduates, or those furthering their education in graduate or law school programs, as reported by the Indiana House Republicans.
Representative Yocum emphasized the value of the internship, stating "Our interns contribute daily to the work we do for Hoosiers at the Statehouse," according to the official Indiana House Republicans website. A range of tasks awaits the interns, from assisting constituents, attending committee meetings to crafting press releases, and working directly with representatives, the internship aims to weave students into the fabric of legislative workings, granting them exposure to a myriad of political and governmental procedures.
For those eager to step into the Statehouse, these full-time positions will have interns clocking in Monday through Friday during the legislative session – a period that commences in January and adjourns come March. Representative Yocum's statement further detailed that interns would not only support legislative operations, policy, and communications but will be shadowing a staff member to work directly with a squadron of state representatives affording them, the entree to Indiana's legislative machinery, as per the Indiana House Republicans.
Moreover, the internship program is designed to offer more than legislative grunt work, positioning interns at a vantage point where they can network with state legislators, state agencies, and private sector stakeholders; the program is setting the stage for a springboard into civic leadership, punctuated with a weekly speaker series headlined by prominent Indiana civic leaders, Yocum told the Indiana House Republicans website. This discourse series is indeed a highlight, offering interns a rare chance to engage with the thoughts and insights that steer Indiana’s policy directions.
