The Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department (CMPD) has released details of a homicide investigation in Indiana. Last night, officers responded to a reported disturbance involving a weapon on Dunshire Drive in Cumberland.
According to the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department Facebook page, an adult female outside her residence reported she had been attacked inside, where a male had been shot. Officers found the injured male with gunshot wounds and provided first aid until EMS arrived. He was later pronounced dead at an Indianapolis hospital. The woman also had injuries and is cooperating with investigators.
A statement from the department said the female retrieved her firearm and fired one shot in self-defense during the assault. Initial evidence and interviews appear to support her account. The male and female knew each other, and she had invited him to her home before the encounter turned violent. The male followed her into another room, where a sexual assault began, and she shot him during the struggle.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact its Investigations Division or CrimeStoppers of Indiana. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is being updated as evidence is gathered.
