An Indianapolis man was apprehended by a vigilant IMPD sergeant on proactive patrol, after allegedly committing an aggravated assault that left another man in critical condition. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) informed the public via their social media platform that 51-year-old Randell Futrell was taken into custody and is accused of battery resulting in injury.
The incident transpired yesterday, near E 16th and N Meridian Streets. It was reported that the sergeant, while on duty in his patrol car, observed a male figure, who was later identified as Futrell, punching another man, who at the time of assault, had been on the ground. Giving chase once Futrell attempted to flee the scene, the officer was able to detain him shortly after.
Assisting officers who arrived at the scene to help the victim found him bearing visible injuries, with suspicions of additional internal harm. As per IMPD's report, the victim was transported by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital in a critical, yet stable condition.
Following the incident, IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives initiated their investigation, which culminated in the arrest of Futrell for the alleged battery leading to significant injury. IMPD, asserting the principle of presumed innocence, stated, "Futrell, as with any person arrested, should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law." Their investigation is ongoing under case number IP250078922.
