Yesterday, the La Verne Fire and Rescue Department responded to an alarm at Jackson's Station, a residential apartment complex located on Old Nashville Highway. Smoke greeted the firefighters upon arrival after they were dispatched at the unfortunate hour of 4:39 AM. The response resulted in the authorities' immediate evacuation of the building's inhabitants, casting a shroud of concern over the community.
An investigation began, the firefighters scouring the location as the first light of dawn crept upon the scene. "Pulling the alarm was the right thing to do," acting Battalion Chief Donald Whitley told La Vergne's official website, emphasizing the vitality of swift action in such situations. Smoke, though light, wound its way through one of the stairwells, prompting the thorough search.
Regardless of the smoke's troubling presence, the fire crews' rigorous examination of the buildings, which included the attics, turned up empty—not once, but twice. They, in coordination with the La Vergne Police Department, extended their vigil beyond the building's walls, surveying the outside perimeter and the neighboring area, which was concealed by the night.
Relief came a little more than an hour later, when residents were told they could return, their homes spared by the unseen threat the smoke had implied.
