A man has been detained after an incident at Vanderbilt University, where he was accused of chasing and threatening students with a knife. According to an arrest affidavit, the suspect, 40-year-old Kiracuras D. Johnson, was identified following a distress call received by Vanderbilt University Police in the early hours of Sunday concerning a man with a knife at the Wyatt Center on campus.
WSMV reports that Johnson, who had already been issued a criminal trespass warning, was found outside of the Vanderbilt University Hospital Emergency Department. Despite a knife not being discovered on his person at the time of arrest, the victims assert that Johnson had threatened them with one. "Upon reviewing cameras, Johnson was in fact on Vanderbilt University property," stated the arrest affidavit, confirming his presence at the location of the incident.
Johnson now faces several charges, including criminal trespassing and felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. FOX 17 indicated that two victims had come forward, providing statements that Johnson had threatened them with a knife, bolstering the accusations against him.
Metro Jail records reveal that Johnson was booked following his arrest. Additional details furnished by WKRN include that Johnson was not far from the emergency department when he was apprehended, a short distance from where the threatening episode reportedly occurred. He is set to appear in court on October 1 to face charges stemming from the events at Vanderbilt University.
