Nearly a year after a street takeover disrupted Hollywood with roaring engines and screeching tires, authorities have announced an arrest. Twenty-two-year-old Jeremiah Luis Hernandez faces charges including felony driving in a coordinated street takeover, an incident captured on video as he executed burnouts, doughnuts, and drifts, according to WSVN. This arrest highlights the crackdown following Florida's toughened stance on such vehicular antics.
On Aug. 18, 2024, public intersections came grinding to a halt when a reckless driver, now allegedly identified as Hernandez, commandeered the roads with a Nissan 350Z. Witnesses documented the spectacle - individuals daringly hung out of windows, while onlookers filmed. The Hollywood Police, determined to decisively follow through on their commitment, have made Hernandez the subject of their first successful arrest under the new legislative measures, according to coverage by NBC Miami.
The sites of the incidents were North 46th Avenue and West Park Road, alongside Hollywood Boulevard and North 13th Avenue. Following social media leads and extensive detective work, the Hollywood Police Department managed to track down Hernandez. "The detective's efforts show that reckless intersection takeovers will not be tolerated in our city," Hollywood Police stated, as cited by NBC Miami.
Residents in the affected neighborhoods said the roar of engines that night was so loud it sounded like gunfire, leading to a surge of 911 calls. While Hernandez has posted bond, his case remains pending in court.
