A Miami man, Jose Junior Batista, was detained this weekend at Miami International Airport for an alleged assault in June that left another man with a permanent brain injury. Local authorities said Batista, 23, was involved in a physical altercation over a "shared romantic partnership," as reported by Local10.com. The violent encounter between the two men purportedly resulted from a love triangle and was partially documented through cellphone footage.
A detailed arrest report by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office indicates that the confrontation occurred on June 12 near Southwest 153rd Avenue and 11th Street. Following the initial fight, Batista is accused of slamming the victim's head onto the pavement multiple times, a sequence of events caught on video. The victim was hospitalized and now endures a traumatic brain injury, the impact of which is described as permanent. In the incident's wake, Batista seemingly provided, an Instagram message admitting to the fight and even included a screenshot of his fist colliding with the victim's face, according to the same Local10.com report.
In addition to the battery charge, Batista is facing a litany of other charges in unrelated cases, including stalking and violating an injunction for protection against stalking. The victim has also implicated Batista in a vandalism incident involving his vehicle on July 22, suspecting Batista was the perpetrator as he was reportedly seen in the gated community at the relevant time.
Online jail records, which provide a mugshot of Batista, list his birthday as November 2, 2001, and detail his physical characteristics, alongside the charges he faces. The bond for the felony battery charge, violation of injunction protect against stalking, and other allegations are noted as "TO BE SET". This information is gleaned from a mugshot posting on MiamiDadeFL.Mugshots.Zone. Batista remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and invoked his right to remain silent upon his arrest.
