A Muncie man has been sentenced to more than three decades in prison for a harrowing act of domestic violence. Di Morriea Turner, aged 25, was convicted of attempted murder, among other charges, after he threw his girlfriend into the path of an oncoming train. The sentencing comes as a result of an incident that occurred on June 19, 2019. According to WISHTV, which cited police reports, the act was carried out in the 500 block of West 23rd Street near a railroad crossing in Muncie.
In a statement obtained by FOX59, the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that Turner received a 36-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction. The conviction also included aggravated battery and domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon. The jury took merely 30 minutes to deliberate before handing down their verdict on July 30.
The events that led to the sentencing tell a grim tale of violence. Turner, in what appears to have been a calculated attack, pushed or threw his girlfriend with the intent to kill. The location of this incident, adjacent to Omni Source, a scrap metal recycling and processing business, became the scene of a shocking example of domestic brutality.
The swiftness of the jury's decision highlights the gravity of Turner's actions. As reported by Local12, Turner learned of his fate on a Thursday after being found guilty on the aforementioned charges. The case, marked by its particularly violent nature, adds to the disturbing instances of domestic violence that plague relationships.
