Two separate beaches in Miami-Dade County became the final docking spots for mysterious, unmanned vessels today. The first incident unfolded at Haulover Park, where a boat was found abandoned on the beach at approximately 8:46 a.m., as reported by Local 10. Detective Joseph R. Peguero Rivera, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, stated that deputies conducted a canvass of the area but failed to locate any occupants or persons linked to the vessel. Subsequently, the decision was made to tow the boat, Local 10 reported.
In a scenario playing out merely a short distance away, a second boat was discovered, this time at Sunny Isles Beach near 103rd Street and Collins Avenue. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, alongside the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, managed to swiftly respond to the scene around 9:20 a.m. An area search was to immediately commence, including resources from land and sea, but they were not able to determine if the boat had previously been occupied or to identify any individuals potentially involved with the craft. This was highlighted in an aerial observation by 7Skyforce, as per their footage of the response effort on the shoreline, WSVN detailed.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the public, encouraging anyone with information related to the abandoned boats to reach out to Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477, providing an opportunity to remain anonymous.
While the boats themselves give no indicator of their origins or the purpose behind their abrupt abandonment, the local authorities are piecing together any evidence they may gather. "The vessel will be towed pending further investigation," said Detective Rivera in reference to the boat at Haulover Park, as noted by Local 10.
