Lawrence has opened a new nonprofit used bookstore, Red Dog Books, at 7115 E. 46th St. in the Lanesville neighborhood. The store offers books priced from $1 to $3 to make reading materials widely available.

According to the City of Lawrence, Red Dog Books also provides “blessing bags” containing hygiene and household products for people in need and offers volunteer opportunities for individuals to develop job skills.

Owner Christie House moved the shop to Lawrence this past summer. In addition to books, the store carries music, movies, and VHS tapes. Mayor Deb Whitfield visited the bookstore this week to mark its opening.
