Miami Beach welcomed pickleball players to three new courts at Flamingo Park earlier today. The lighted courts, located at 1200 Meridian Ave in the South Beach area, officially opened at 8:30 a.m. According to the City of Miami Beach's announcement, attendees were encouraged to enter through the racquetball facility at the east end of Meridian Avenue or the west end of Michigan Avenue via 13 Street.
Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner seems as excited as anyone about the expansion, declaring, "Pickleball is more than a craze in Miami Beach — it’s a smash hit!” Apparently, the city isn't just stopping with three courts; they've already got six at Miami Beach Golf Club and another two at Polo Park. Now with the addition of the four at Flamingo Park, locals have a platter of options to stay active. The event went beyond a simple ribbon-cutting, offering attendees complimentary refreshments, giveaways, and opportunities to meet fellow pickleball enthusiasts, as detailed by the city's website.
Flamingo Park is undergoing a series of enhancements, including some serious TLC for the Andy Diamond softball field, a revamp for the Flamingo Park Lodge, and the installation of a serene new butterfly garden.
