A Nicaraguan national, convicted of reentry after deportation, received a five-year federal prison sentence. Marco Orlando Vado, 66, pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced last Tuesday, August 26 by Senior U.S. District Judge Paul C. Huck, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. This term is in addition to a 72-month sentence for probation violation in connection with a drug trafficking case. Vado had previously accepted a guilty plea for attempted sexual battery of a minor under 12.
Vado's criminal record in the United States goes back to November 2009 when he was convicted of trafficking cocaine in Broward County. Following that conviction, he was placed on six years of probation but was deported to Nicaragua on December 23, 2009. Despite his removal, Vado made his way back to the U.S. and was arrested in April 2022 by North Miami Beach Police for attempted sexual battery of a minor under 12, as detailed by the same press release.
The recent case was investigated by the ICE/ERO Miami Field Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Cooley prosecuting. The announcement of Vado's sentence was made by U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida and ICE ERO Miami Field Office Director Garrett Ripa.
Details of Vado's criminal proceedings and his sentencing can be found on the Southern District of Florida's website, with court documents available under case number 23-cr-60244. Insight into the complexities of immigration law enforcement and the ramifications for those who reenter illegally is provided through official channels, demonstrating the seriousness of Vado's offenses and the legal system's response to such violations.
