The Phoenix community grapples with a somber resolution to a tragic case of domestic violence. Eduardo Galindo-Ramirez, 34, has been sentenced to 18.5 years in prison for the second-degree murder of his girlfriend, Andrea Casarrubias Romero. Provided by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the sentence follows a guilty plea from Galindo-Ramirez after a brutal crime that shocked locals last year.
Details surrounding the incident came to light when the Phoenix police were dispatched for a welfare check to a home near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road, as FOX 10 Phoenix reported. The officers, led to Galindo-Ramirez's apartment by a trail of blood, discovered Romero with over 30 stab wounds. Fleeing to Mexico in the aftermath, leaving behind a grim scene, was an action taken by Galindo-Ramirez, authorities found.
According to 12 News, Romero's brother played a crucial role in locating Galindo-Ramirez, convincing him to return to the United States and face the consequences of his actions. During a telling phone call, Galindo-Ramirez confessed to the killing, as well as his subsequent attempt to treat his own wound and cleanse himself of the act before fleeing.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell underscored the severity of Galindo-Ramirez's crime, saying, "At no point did this defendant show any regard for Andrea’s life." Quoted by both FOX 10 Phoenix and 12 News, Mitchell further addressed the investigation's outcome: "He attempted to wash himself clean of his actions, but thanks to the diligent work of the Phoenix Police Department and the perseverance of her family, he was brought to justice." The work by law enforcement and the persistence of Romero’s family brought the case to a close; with Romero's family hopeful, justice has been served.
