An assistant football coach at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach is facing child abuse charges following an incident involving students during football practice. Jamir Clarke, 29, was arrested and charged with four counts of child abuse without great bodily harm after reportedly becoming physical with multiple students.
The altercation, as reported by WSVN, occurred in the school's weight room on Monday afternoon. Clarke allegedly struck a student in the face and others in the chest and stomach, following a dispute over a social media post. One incident involved Clarke hitting a student hard enough to crack a mirror during the scuffle. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene at around 4 p.m. following the report of the confrontation.
In a communication sent to parents, the school principal informed them that Clarke "will also no longer serve as an assistant football coach at our school – this was his only position on our campus," as per Local 10. Moreover, Clarke is reported to have another role at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, from which he is also being reassigned.
Broward County Public Schools has expressed its concern over the incident, stating, “The employee in question is being reassigned as we review the matter for further action, up to and including termination. We are deeply disturbed by this incident, as the safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority.” Clarke is currently being held at the Broward County Main Jail and was expected to appear in bond court today. Parents with further queries have been directed to contact the principal at 754-322-0950 for additional information and support, as reported by Local 10.
