Salt Lake County is forging ahead with the renovation of the Salt Palace Convention Center, taking a key step by pairing up with a series of expert partners to oversee the transformation of the downtown cornerstone into a modern hub for sports, entertainment, and conventions, according to Salt Lake County. After a detailed planning phase, which included assessing the benefits of the renovation, the county has brought on board Construction Control Corporation/RLB for construction and cost management expertise, while architectural innovation gets a boost from MHTN/Populous, marrying local insight with global design prowess.
The teamwork doesn't end there; Salt Lake County has entrusted the management of the Salt Palace to Legends Global, having demonstrated confidence in the firm through the renewal of its contract after a tough bidding war. The continued improvement of the Salt Palace is heating up with the search for a construction firm via an in-progress RFP process, and Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson is championing the project, stating, "These selections represent some of the best talent in the industry, with a unique and necessary blending of local and national expertise," as per Salt Lake County.
It's not just about the building: the mayor envisions a revamped district that promises enhanced community affairs amid walkable streets and a connected downtown. With the support of the Utah State Legislature, Salt Lake City partners, and major players like Smith Entertainment Group and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the overarching plan looks to animate the area into a thriving social and cultural nexus.
The SECC District's emergence is a nod to the collective vision of a lively downtown and the public-private partnerships nurturing its growth, articulating a path towards a harmonious public space that echoes the diverse interests of the community, and while major cultural and sports events are poised to fill calendars, landmarks like Temple Square and Abravanel Hall continue to entice visitors in their eminence, the pursuit of breadth in the district's appeal moves steadfastly on, promising a smorgasbord of experiences for locals and tourists alike. Salt Lake County is committed to a long haul of collaboration, cementing the foundations of the growing Sports, Entertainment, Culture, and Convention District with its wide array of public and private partnerships.
