A late-night altercation turned fatal in Ocean Beach, as a 22-year-old man was shot and subsequently died from his injuries. The San Diego Police Department reported receiving a call about the incident at approximately 11:29 PM last Wednesday. The dispute originated in a parking lot located at 5000 Newport Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found Joseph Bojorquez Jr., who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite aid rendered by officers and medics, the young man, described as mixed-race, could not be revived, as documented in a Hoodline article. Following the initial punch thrown by Bojorquez at one of the men, his companion pulled out a handgun and shot him, both suspects - identified as White males - then fled on foot.
Homicide detectives are actively investigating the shooting, and two persons of interest have been spotlighted in photographs released to the media on September 12. In this case, the San Diego community has been urged to step forward with any details that may lead to an arrest.
