The Westfield Police Department in Indiana shared an update on its Citizens Academy. The third week of the academy focused on hands-on learning about law enforcement duties, including mock traffic stops and impaired driving investigations, as per the Westfield Police Department's Facebook page.
Participants practiced running their own mock traffic stops to learn the procedures officers follow to maintain road safety. Another group focused on impaired driving, learning about the effects of substance use on driving abilities and legal consequences. Attendees used visual impairment goggles to experience how intoxication affects reactions and judgment.
The Citizens Academy program provides residents with an opportunity to gain insight into police work and the challenges officers face in their duties.
