On Wednesday in American Canyon, an otherwise routine traffic stop escalated into a significant police seizure after an officer intercepted a vehicle for speeding and tailgating on Highway 29 near Highway 12. The incident, which occurred just before 5 PM, led to the discovery of illegal firearms and narcotics, according to the American Canyon Police Department.

Upon pulling over the white Toyota 4Runner, a K9 partner signaled the presence of drugs, prompting an extensive search that unveiled three loaded guns, two that were unregistered, and substances believed to be methamphetamine and cocaine besides other paraphernalia akin to drug trafficking, the department’s post revealed that amidst the various items seized from the vehicle were also suggestive evidence that pointed towards the intention of selling the controlled substances.

The driver, Daniel Castillo, a 37-year-old resident of North Highlands, now faces seven felony charges, which include severe accusations such as the possession of controlled substances intended for sale, carrying loaded firearms unlawfully, and being a felon already prohibited from firearm possession. Meanwhile, Crystal Bingham, 44, of Napa, the passenger, has been charged with possession of controlled substances under two counts. Both suspects were booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections.
