The Berkeley Police Department recently updated the public on a serious domestic violence case that unfolded over the past month. According to the Berkeley Police Department's Facebook post, a suspect with a history of domestic violence was arrested for a string of felonies following a coordinated effort by local law enforcement agencies.
On September 19, police responded to a domestic violence incident where the suspect had forcibly broken into the home of his former partner. The altercation escalated quickly, with the suspect reportedly brandishing a firearm, physically assaulting the victim, and committing robbery before escaping the scene. In the following days, he apparently attacked the victim once again, but in a different jurisdiction.
Prompted by these events, an arrest warrant was issued, encompassing charges for domestic violence, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon, among other related crimes. The break in the case came when police detained the suspect on Tuesday with the help of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.
After the arrest, officers executed a search warrant in Oakland that led to the discovery of additional evidence, including three firearms. "On October 1, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office formally charged the suspect with multiple felonies," the Berkeley Police Department described in their statement. The litany of charges includes a sexual assault and several felony enhancements.
