A Coral Springs traffic stop led to the discovery of fentanyl and a firearm during a police investigation. The incident took place on Thursday last week when officers observed a black Chevrolet Avalanche at a Mobil gas station. The driver, 42-year-old Ryan Eugene Cohee of Davie, was found to have a suspended license, according to Coral Springs Talk.

After Cohee left the station, police monitored the vehicle and later pulled it over for speeding. Officers reported the smell of cannabis and saw a lit joint, which Cohee said was medical marijuana but could not provide a valid card. A K-9 unit signaled the presence of drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle.

Police found a hidden compartment under the console containing a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and ammunition. Cohee, who has eight prior felony convictions, is not permitted to possess firearms. Detectives also located a tactical backpack with a digital scale, pill bottles, and a bag containing fentanyl. Coral Springs Talk reported the fentanyl weighed 25 grams, while TAPinto Coral Springs stated it was over 28 grams.

Cohee was taken to the Broward County Main Jail. Coral Springs Talk reported he was being held without bond, while TAPinto Coral Springs indicated court records show he was later released on bond.

The case remains under review as court proceedings continue.
