Early this morning, a serious collision occurred in Fort Wayne, Indiana, leaving one driver in critical condition. According to a report from the Fort Wayne Police Department, the crash took place at the intersection of Illinois Rd. and Sutton Ave. around 4:45 am. When police arrived, they discovered a sedan with significant front-end damage and a semi-trailer near to the scene. The Fort Wayne Fire Department worked swiftly to extract the driver, who was trapped in the mangled car, efficiently completing the rescue in just 19 minutes.
Following the extraction, the injured driver was urgently transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, doctors later determined that the victim's condition was life-threatening. While it is clear that both vehicles were heading westbound on Illinois Rd. when the sedan struck the rear of the semi's trailer, it remains uncertain why the sedan was unable to avoid the collision. Speed may have contributed to the crash, but investigators are still piecing together the details. The operator of the semi is said to be fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The Fort Wayne Police Department has handed the case over to their FACT team and the Aerial Support Unit to thoroughly examine the circumstances of the incident. They are reaching out to the public for any witnesses who might shed light on the events leading to this near-fatal crash. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1222, Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867, or to submit tips anonymously through the P3 Tips App. This call for community assistance was made in a statement from Officer Adam Hartman, the Public Information Officer.
